Assessing the Effectiveness of Connected Vehicle Technologies based on Driving Simulator Experiments
The research team will investigate the effectiveness of the Cooperative Forward Collision Warning (CFCW) technology and the Pedestrian-to-Vehicle (P2V) technology utilizing a driving simulator. Drivers’ behaviors under different pre-crash scenarios will be examined to quantify the effectiveness of the technologies. Then, the overall safety benefits will be estimated by incorporating driving simulator experiment results, real crash data, and previous literature for various warning types and locations. Furthermore, the research team will also provide recommendations for warning systems’ design with the consideration of different potential crash situations.
