In this project, a simulation-based approach will be adopted to assess the crash risks of evacuation traffic. The project has three major objectives: 1) to investigate why hurricane evacuations involve a significantly high number of crashes, 2) to identify if there are any changes in traffic flow behavior between evacuation and non-evacuation periods, and 3) to assess the potential risks of crashes during evacuations.
